Homemade Fruit Smoothie Bowls – Healthy, Easy & Vegan

Smoothies are the perfect healthy and easy meal when you don’t have time to cook or you just want something healthy and refreshing (especially after working out).
I like to make my own homemade fruit smoothie bowls, as the ones that you buy at places like Nectar and Juice It Up are expensive. I can also control the ingredients when they are made at home.
Homemade Fruit Smoothie Bowls
I used to make my own healthy fruit smoothies all the time as a meal replacement but I usually wasn't satisfied after. I think it was because I was drinking my smoothie instead of eating it. I was always the same way with milkshakes, I would prefer eating ice cream over drinking a milkshake.
This is what got me started making my own homemade fruit smoothie bowls that are healthy, easy, and vegan. I love that they are versatile and I can use whatever frozen fruit I have on hand. It is also very easy to change the ingredients so I'm not eating the same fruit smoothie bowl each time.
I typically only use frozen fruit in my smoothies as I already eat lots of vegetables each day and find that I don't eat enough fruit. Feel free to add some veggies to my healthy smoothie bowl recipe if you feel you need more vegetables in your diet.
I also love the fact that it is a vegan smoothie bowl as I try to eat as much of a plant-based diet as I can!
What You Need To Make My Vegan Smoothie Bowl
I like to use all frozen fruit as it keeps the consistency nice and creamy. I usually freeze my bananas that are getting really ripe to use in smoothies and or banana bread. Feel free to use fresh fruit, just cut down on the nut milk that you use.
-
- Bananas
- Tropical Fruit Mix (pineapple, mango, peaches, and strawberries)
- Cherries
- Blueberries
- Almond Milk
- Protein Powder (I use Orgain Creamy Chocolate Fudge)
- Ground Flax Seed
- Cinnamon
- Blender (I use a Vitamix)
Variations To My Healthy Smoothie Bowl Recipe
I buy most of my frozen fruit at Costco and some at Target depending on the selection at each store, and I usually try to buy organic. At times I buy fresh fruit and freeze it.
There are so many variations that you can either put in or on top to make this your own smoothie bowl. First off you can really use whatever fruit that you may already have in your freezer or you can get creative and try different flavors together. Above is the combination that I like but I do tend to switch it up now and then.
Other smoothie bowl variations:
- Green Veggies ( to make it a green smoothie bowl)
- Apples
- Melons
- Avocado
- Dates (will sweeten your smoothie)
- Dairy-Free Yogurt
- Peanut Butter or Almond Butter
- Chia Seeds
Most of the time I eat my vegan smoothie bowl just how it is without any toppings but every once in a while I want more. My favorite toppings are homemade granola, fresh fruit, hemp seeds, and coconut.
There are so many different toppings, use your imagination and what's in your pantry!
